An affront to the honor of the Chinese people!

After having seen more than a few of these manufactured diplomatic spats between china and japan I hardly pay attention any more.

But it's a bit ironic still to see a giant floor to ceiling add from McDonalds for their new "Sakana Supreme" Japanese style sandwich in the Hong Kong MTR station today Oct 1st, which happens to be the China's National day holiday.

If this were Mainland China I'm sure some 'netizens' would start complaining about it being some sort of plot orchestrated by someone to insult Chinese dignity on this particular day. :-P

(undoubtedly by the same people who put the round hole in that building in Shanghai!!!)

I laugh but the sad thing is these type of people exist in America too. They believe that our own president is a communist and/or Nazi or that Sharia law will be imposed in our court system any day now by illegal immigrants' anchor babies.

In another nearby ad, The Samsonite Corporation has made an affront to the dignity of airport chauffeurs everywhere...

"Like Sushi on the Kaiten"

Anyone who knows what song that is a quote from wins bonus points.

A few weeks back a friend of mine saw a new sushi place and spontaneously decided we should go in.... Despite the fact that I don't eat sushi...

To be honest in all my years I think this is actually the first time I have ever sat at the counter of a sushi place with one of hose conveyor belt things.

Needless to say I didn't eat any sushi... But I did pick up a plate or two of something comprised of scrambled egg slices on rice.

Anyway a new experience for me.

How to fix a stopped up drain HK style pt 2

Here's the follow up on my drain pipe situation!

A week after diagnosing the problem they came back to replace the offending pipe.

The problem is that they needed to do work from the outside of the building. To avoid dropping things on ppl's heads that meant setting up some temporary scaffolding. Since this is HK, scaffolding is usually bamboo poles tied together with nylon string.

So at 9:30 am the bamboo guys came in and quickly set up outside my window.

Then the contractor cut off the stopped up pipe. Completely removing the pipe would have meant tearing our a sizable piece of wall under my kitchen counter, so instead they just drilled a new hole in the wall and put in an extension to the main drain line.

The whole thing only took about 2 hours. Later that afternoon the bamboo guys came back and took out the scaffolding. Quite efficient!

The best part was that my landlord paid for the whole thing. Glad they didn't try to claim my pancakes, cereal and spaghetti were causing the pipe to be irreversibly clogged!

Converse Love

I've heard of couples wearing matching sweaters or T's, but never matching black leather Converse Chuck Taylors!

Spotted in Central, HK.
